Ithaca, NY – On Saturday, May 19th NAMI-Finger Lakes will recognize National Mental Health Awareness Month by hosting a rally to raise awareness about mental illness and to support mental health. The rally, called One in Five, will take place from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Cass Park. National Mental Health Awareness Month is typically set aside to raise awareness about mental illness, end stigma associated with mental illness, and promote the importance of good mental health.

One in Five refers to the reality that one in five families will be affected by mental illness, making it one of the most common illnesses we face. The rally is being sponsored by NAMI-Finger Lakes (the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness) in partnership with Mental Health Association, Cayuga Medical Center, Compos Mentis, Tompkins County Mental Health Services, and SPACE.

Speakers will include Robert DeLuca, Tompkins County Mental Health Commissioner, Eric Weaver from the Rochester Police Department, Dr. Robert Dean, David Bulkley, Barbara Lifton, and others. A number of local organizations concerned about mental illness and mental health will be present with valuable information. Music and food will be available.

Traditional fiddle tunes and songs by Trish Engelhard, Mike Ludgate and Friends!
