Entrepreneurial Youth Lead Sustainability Initiatives

Ithaca – Tompkins County has a growing reputation for leadership in sustainable living, and local youth are playing an expanding role in helping our community become more socially and environmentally responsible. Three inspiring stories of youth entrepreneurship in the green economy will be shared on Monday, May 10 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Wildfire Lounge at 106 S. Cayuga Street at the monthly gathering of the SEEN (Sustainable Enterprise & Entrepreneur Network).

Green Guerrillas Youth Media Tech Collective trains young people in using media to analyze and draw attention to important social, political, economic and environmental issues. The Localvore and Youth Farm project at Lehman Alternative Community School has been connecting students with local farmers for training in healthy food production and processing. ScienceWorks is a new teen program of the Sciencenter connecting youth with scientists and community groups through leadership projects related to sustainability. Their first project will focus on helping local businesses reduce their fossil fuel energy consumption.

The gathering will begin with an opportunity to network with area business owners while enjoying refreshments. A cover fee of $5 will be collected at the door. To learn more and get directions, go to http://greenresourcehub.org.

The SEEN is a project of the Green Resource Hub, a non-profit organization working to expand the regional marketplace for sustainable living through business support services and consumer education on green building, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green purchasing.
