Subject: Ellis Hollow Rd DETOUR BEGINS MAY 9
To: John Lampman <jlampman@tompkins-co.org<mailto:jlampman@tompkins-co.org>>
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Despite the rain, the highway construction season is upon us in Tompkins County once again! Therefore, Suit-Kote Corporation has begun gearing up to complete the work on Ellis Hollow Road that was begun last fall. Persistent rainy weather may be a problem, but on MONDAY MAY 9, Suit-Kote will be re-activating the ONE-WAY, EASTBOUND (AWAY FROM ITHACA) TRAFFIC PATTERN that was in effect last year. The one-way section will be in effect between approximately house # 1397 and Thomas Road.
The lane that is used for traffic will initially be the same lane that was used last year, so you will have to drive on the left again to start. The schedule calls for that to switch to the opposite lane in about 1 week, so watch for the barrels and signs and drive carefully!!! Once June comes, the traffic lane will be shifted again and will likely be switched other times before the detour is removed in the first few weeks of July. The contractor has given the County a schedule calling for all work to be complete, weather permitting, by July 10.
As last year, the westbound traffic will be detoured east on Ellis Hollow Road to Route 79, where vehicles can then proceed west. Please do not disregard the DO NOT ENTER, WRONG WAY, and ONE WAY signs. There were several close calls last year. Saving those few feet to go the wrong way on a one-way street could end up costing much more!
Finally, remember to think twice when leaving your driveways and obey the signs and have a safe construction season. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me or John Dolan (cell: 327-2616) by e-mail or at the County Highway Division: 274-0300.
Sincerely,
John Lampman _________________ Michael Ludgate - forum administrator
