A couple errors were found in Sage Hen Waltz ... When errors are found we always replace the old file with the new version. But we also mention it on this thread.

Fixed http://www.ludgatefarms.com/YFN_sheet_music/YFN_PageW1.pdf

Thanks Tim and Wash!

Mike,

Attached are some tune updates:

Page 12: Changed C naturals to C sharps in the B part of Drowsy Maggie

Page R1: Added the double stops to the B part of Blackberry Blossom

Page R13: New page, Durang's Hornpipe (portland version as per Rene's
request) and The Galway Hornpipe

WRT The Merry Blacksmith (Patty on the Railroad). I will bring both
versions to night and we can hash out what makes the most sense
on the chords.

I found this in a 30+ year old concertina tune book. It is Scottish and it's square for contra! (Em)

It is also was published more recently in Portland #2, I discovered it under a slightly different name ... but this version is simpler and flows a little smoother I think.

Michael,

I'm the Steve who plays accordion in YNF sometimes. At the risk of stirring up
controversy, here's another version of Jack A Tar. I've played the tune for 20 years
and it's a favorite, but my fingers have been rebelling at a few little bits
of the version that you posted. So I put together something of a hybrid,
mostly from what you posted but not quite all of it. The only big difference
is in measure 7 of the A and B parts, which seem (to me) to make both parts
flow better.

Cheers,

Steve

Tim Carnes has just compiled the PDF's made by Wash for the 3rd time. This allows for one big file to be downloaded and printed. If you are looking for updates only, keep an eye on this thread. The latest compiled version now includes page R-13 See http://www.ludgatefarms.com/mus_sound.html for complete details. Right column scroll down.

Also be sure you have all the supplemental pages. R1-R13 (reels), J1-J4 (jigs) and G, W etc... these are all included on the tuneset web page and Tim's latest compiled PDF file. We have been playing these this summer.

When YFN played for the Trautmann family wedding last Saturday (daughter Nina), we discovered a long forgotten Jig. Originally written for Charlie and Nancy's wedding by Steve Rausch in 1977, it has an acomaniyng dance to go with it. Steve, Charlie and Nancy were all YFN'ers at that time. This tune should be in the set and will be as soon as I can get a copy to Wash to transcribe into computereze ...

Re-discovered jig from 1977 YFN ... we played this at Nina Trautmann's wedding.

How did YFN get their name? Prior to this time the "Monday night contra band" had no name: Charlie & Nancy Trautmann led YFN 1979-82. During this time, an unknown writer put the words "Music by Your Friends & Neighbors" on a flier for a gig, and the name stuck. Steve Rausch was Charlie's college roommate and headed a contra band in Cincinnati in the late 1970s.

This Jig was written by Steve Rausch for Charley and Nancy's wedding in 1977 then YFN played it again for their daughter's wedding in 2008. Charlie gave Ted a break and called the dance.

Mike, Attached are the .midi files for 59 or 60 of the more frequently played YFN tunes at four different tempos. I have things reasonably automated at this point so it is pretty simple to add/delete tunes and to do different speeds. -wash

This was spontaneously composed at last night's Wed jam (02.18.2009) ... it is a waltz based on the French Canadian Reel Pay de Haut ("The High Country"). Mike and Renee played it on fiddle. Wash is our notational genius: he notated it as soon as he got it home.

Consider this a draft ... feedback welcome!
