Hello, out there! A quick note to say that our website...
http://www.springwaterfiddlersfair.net/
...is up and running and, if you misplace this email, you can now get to it via Google (e.g., "fiddlers fair" - currently, first page of your search, second item).
The Musician's Registration Form is on the site, and they're beginning to come in - hope you can join us! One added bit of info - we will have two "stage" areas, instead of just one (the sugarhouse porch); the second, a large hay wagon an easy distance away from the porch.
Any questions I (or someone) can answer, give a holler - you can use my email address for them. And we'll all hope that the Old Farmer's Almanac, page 213, is slightly in error for that period in mid-September...
Have a great summer!

This is a general update for our Springwater Fiddlers Fair & American Craft Show, this Saturday, 19 September.
We've had some website problems, but these two sites - between them - carry all of the information:
a) http://www.springwaterfiddlersfair.net - our original site: Contains basic information, the variety of workshops we're having, some fine photos of the Sugarbush site (the porch/stage, performance areas in the woods, the meadow, etc), a Google map of the area (zoom-able) and the Registration Form for fiddlers (we're accepting them through the 17th, although the stage performances have only a small number of slots still available).
b) http://www.hemlockcraftworks.com - our local 'way station' with the most current information - schedule of stage performances, lists of all performers to date, etc.
There'll be a lot of jamming and solo playing, both on the meadow and up in the woods where several areas of various sizes have been prepared. Produce from local farmers will be available for our on-site foods, prepared by carefully selected area restaurateurs; and real crafts - from local craftsmen - will be featured. Those are all listed on one or the other of the websites, above.
We've packed a lot of activities into a one-day Fair, so come, join us - to play, to see, to eat, to have fun, in this beautiful woodlands and meadows setting!
And to those of you who have helped us along the way with ideas, excellent advice, contacts, and the like - a simple "Thank you!" seems totally inadequate. We are most grateful to you!
Herb Tinney

Happy New Year!
We're pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Springwater Fiddlers Fair & American Crafts Show: Saturday, 18 September 2010, 10 am until 6 pm.
Our site has the basic information, and a group of pics from last year which gives a pretty good idea of the crowd size, some well-known faces on stage, etc. This site will be updated regularly:
http://www.springwaterfiddlersfair.net/
...and this site has a fine video done at the Fair - enjoy!
http://www.fingerlakesliving.info/
We've gotten over our initial shell-shock at the success of our first go-round, are planning for more food vendors (all local, preparing good nutritious recipes, using local farmers' produce, etc), more port-a-potties (!), free drinking water this time - and whatever else folks have been suggesting. We're also working out the logistics for an additional stage area, with alternating performances to get rid of the lag-time.
In short, we learned a lot, are still learning, and the suggestions and ideas coming to us - about everything - have been tremendously helpful.
For the record: We expected an audience of 500-600; the official (paid) number was 1,500 (plus or minus a few). But we had people arriving after 5 o'clock (when we stopped the $5 admission fee), and estimate the unofficial total to be between 1,700 and 1,800 - plus about a hundred musicians who were also free admissions. Our food vendors were pretty well cleaned out, as were a number of smaller grocery stores in villages close by. Nearby restaurants, we later learned, were doing a booming business, too - and campsites in the area reported a "good weekend." So...
Hope we'll be hearing from you, and that you'll be part of the 2010 SFFACS!
Best wishes,
Herb Tinney
Co-Chairman, SFFACS 2010

The 2nd Annual Springwater Fiddlers Fair & American Crafts Show will take place on Saturday, 18 September 2010, from 10 am until 6 pm.
Last year, our first Fair:
- expected audience, 500-600; by 5 o'clock, some 1,600 paid admissions, with people still arriving;
- 100-plus musicians, jamming and solo-playing up in the woods, and onstage.
This year:
- an adjacent, alternating stage, to provide as much onstage performance time as possible;
- some added "percs" for musicians with instruments only:
- the red hats (which many of you already have - bring them!);
- commemorative buttons (2009 for last year's musicians, and 2010);
- $5 in vouchers to help defray food costs;
- an additional token of our gratitude for your participation;
- Ted and John McGraw (WRUR-FM 88.5, Sunday mornings, 10 'til 12) will again be our MCs.
- More details in later updates
Please visit our website,
http://springwaterfiddlersfair.net
for full information, and to download the Musician Early Registration form (pdf format).
Questions? Please contact me.
We look forward to seeing you here on 18 September! Think positive thoughts about the weather...

If you are mailing a Musicians Early Registration form to us, please add:
Attn H Tinney
under "Springwater Fiddlers Fair" in the mailing address on your envelope (and you can use just that much of our title).
With applications for food vendors, crafts people, etc, also coming to the same PO Box, this will make sorting - and getting replies out to you - much faster.
Best wishes,
Herb Tinney

We would like to remind all potential registrants that the Fiddlers Fair is an event for ALL ACOUSTIC MUSICIANS (see the reverse side of our promotional card). No performances using electronic instruments (guitars, pianos, etc) will be considered.
From Herb: "I'm partially recanting one line I put out earlier, that only acoustic instruments would be considered: digital keyboards, played as pianos, are acceptable, as are digital basses."
A professionally operated sound system will again be in place for all onstage performances - but speaker towers will be physically placed offstage this year, so no one will be able to hide behind them.
Please remember: Questions from you are important, and we'll do our best get answers to you as quickly as possible. Updated information will be sent out as it comes available.
Best wishes,
Herb

The 2nd Annual Springwater Fiddlers Fair & American Crafts Show Sugarbush Hollow, Saturday, 18 September, 10 - 6 pm
Driving? Some changes from last year (if you have more than one driver in your group, kindly copy these instructions for them).
Note: GPS systems won't work for the final very few miles to Sugarbush Hollow - for pedestrian safety at Sugarbush, a couple of roads will be blocked. Please follow these instructions:
1 From whatever direction you're coming, you'll eventually be directed to Tabors Corner Road.
2 Follow the Sugarbush Hollow signs, and fiddle-image signs (red on yellow background) onto Pardee Hollow Road.
3 Pardee Hollow Road "T's" at Dutch Hollow Road - the large open field is public parking. If you're coming as "public" and not as a musician, park here and take the school bus to Sugarbush Hollow - less than a mile.
4 If you're coming to play (either onstage, or to jam or play solo in the woods), tell that to whoever's directing traffic. Turn right, to continue on Pardee Hollow Road. Turn left onto Coats Road, and an immediate right into the driveway between the shed and two large barns. An attendant will direct you from there.
Note: If you have heavier instruments (digital piano, hammered dulcimer, etc) or equipment, instead of turning onto Coats, proceed straight ahead to the public entrance. You can unload there (keep something with you that identifies you as a participating musician!), then drive back up to Coats, and park.
5 You will be directed to a tent at the far end of the parking field. Sign in there (email or USPS address is okay - we don't share them with anyone). Carrying an instrument is your ticket to free entry; you may bring one free guest (more, at $5 per person), and children under 12 are free.
6 You'll be directed to "Musicians Way" - the path down the side of the hill behind the Sugarhouse, to... "The 2nd Annual Springwater Fiddlers Fair & American Crafts Show!" Enjoy!
'Play the weather' and dress accordingly. At about 2,000 feet up, the air is clearer, the sun is brighter; one can sunburn easily. There are well-cleared paths throughout the woods on the hill, with clearings for the day's workshops, jamming, and solo playing. The paths are sloped - not at all dangerous, but they can be slightly strenuous. Bringing a light-weight folding chair can be good, if you don't mind carrying it.
Questions? send me an email before Saturday morning.
Hope to see you here!
Herb Tinney

====2012====
Plans for this year's SFFACS - our 4th year! - are moving along, and we hope to see you up here in the hills at Sugarbush Hollow Farm, east of our hamlet of Springwater, on Saturday, 15 September.
Our website includes this year's updated musicians' information, including the registration form only if you wish to be considered for an onstage performance slot. Participating in our various open and informal music events along the trails up in the woods - jamming, solo playing, etc - is always a popular feature, and we're working on better signage to get you up there! As well, there will again be fine, free workshops up on the hill during the day - music, forestry, etc.
For the moment, here's the basic information on our 2012 postcard. Updates will be forthcoming. Please remember:
- a musician, with an instrument, and one other person (friend, spouse, etc), have free admission (at the tent on the top of the hill near the barns)
- this is a whole-family event. Young children, accompanied by adults, will love it, hiking the well-tended trails up into the woods along the maple sap lines, taking part in workshops in learning to make and play simple music instruments, play musical games – and simply have fun in a totally natural setting.
Questions? Drop me an email. Also - a number of folks signed in last year, but omitted contact info; if you happen to know of anyone in this category, we'd be pleased if you'd tell them about this year's Fair!
[Note: My spamblocker is set 'high' - if you've not emailed me before, you'll be blocked but I'll be notified and will let you in; please include "SFFACS" in your Subject line as an identifier.]
Be well, play well, have fun with your music - and we'll look forward to seeing and hearing you in September! And remember, "Sun . . . no rain . . ."

Greetings, all!
A final reminder, and an early welcome to our 4th Annual Springwater Fiddlers Fair & American Crafts Show, along some basic information - and a refresher if you've been at previous Fairs.
There are still a couple of morning onstage slots open (20 minutes each, on the Sugarhouse stage/larger groups), and a couple of afternoon slots (30 minutes each, on the adjoining stage/smaller groups). If you'd like to be considered for one of these, download and fill out the form on our website . . .
www.springwaterfiddlersfair.net
. . . and scan and email it to me, or mail it to our PO box (address info is at the bottom of the form). Your request must arrive no later than Tuesday, 4 September. Please include full names of all musicians in your group - everyone enjoys seeing their name listed in the program!
For everyone:
We "open" around 9 am. The formal onstage performances run from 10 am 'til the traditional Grand Jam - for all musicians still here to join in - beginning at 5:30, ending at 6 pm.
Anyone with an instrument case (we assume there's an instrument in it!), gets in free - and can include one guest. Park in the musicians' lot by the big barns at the top of the knoll above the Sugarhouse - there'll be a sign at that entrance, on Pardee Hollow Road. Please take a moment to register at the small tent at the edge of the knoll. Include your email address, if possible - we keep them secure, and you're in our database for next year's Fair. There will also be a small token of our appreciation for your participation. And . . .
If you have the red hat from a previous year (see the sig-block, below), don't forget to wear it - and collect the 2012 Fair hat-band button (and previous years, if you didn't get them before). Newcomers will get a red hat and the 2012 button.
Be careful going down the path to the meadow if there's still dew on it! - and ENJOY your time at the Fair!
Playing in the hills is totally informal - an absolute "do your own thing" situation - by yourself, or with whoever you might want to jam with - even join scheduled onstage friends if they invite you - for as little or as long as you like.
Any questions - please contact me using the information in the sig-block, below.
Best wishes - and see you at the Fair,

===2013===
Greetings, from all of us on the Springwater Fiddlers Fair & American Crafts Show crew!
After a long, cold and rather dreary winter, up here in the hills above New York's "Little Finger Lakes," we're in full, warm sun - and in full planning mode for the 2013 edition of the SFFACS at Sugarbush Hollow - Saturday, 14 September, our 5th Annual!
Our website, at . . .
www.springwaterfiddlersfair.net
. . . has both the 2013 Musician's Application Form (Onstage Performance) and Artist's Application Form (for crafted items) already in place. The website will continue to be updated with additional new information on a regular basis, so save our address and keep checking it out. The variety of workshops, including musical, forestry-environmental, and those for young children, will again be featured, with full details forthcoming.
Stay well, keep practicing, enjoy the beautiful spring weather . . . we'll keep you informed over the next few months, and hope to see you in September!
Best wishes,
