Tim teaches lessons in classical violin and fiddle. His teaching is guided by the philosophy that learning the violin should be fun and rewarding, provide students with a context to understand how and why they learn skills, and emphasize the integrated nature of all aspects of violin playing and general musicianship.

To this end, Tim introduces all of his students to elements of both classical and traditional music, and develops each according to the student's interests and needs. He emphasizes finding patterns in music to assist both in reading and learning by ear, solid and efficent technique that can be used as an expressive tool, and above all an awareness of the way that music feels: to play, to listen to, and to dance to.

Tim's training at Ithaca College included regular observation of master violin teachers in studio classes and master classes, as well as providing feedback to peers in studio classes. He is currently pursuing certification as a Suzuki violin teacher through an apprenticeship with Carrie Reuning-Hummel of Ithaca, New York.

Tim currently teaches regularly in Ithaca, New York, and occasionally in Rochester and other locations in upstate New York. For information about rates, other locations, or to set up a trial lesson, please contact Tim.
