HEAR YEA! HEAR YEA! HEAR YEA!

The Candor Jam is moving for this week to its previous location, the work room at Bob and Cheryl Berg's sprawling home.
The ladies of the Congregational Church need our usual space to prepare for the holiday bazaar being held this coming weekend.

We will "man" the church and redirect those who do not get this message and when we leave, I'm sure the ladies will redirect any late, lost souls.

So, please come to 90 MAIN STREET. That is just a block or two south of the church,on the east side of the road (left as you travel south) across the street fromt he Frontier Phone building and parking lot. Feel free to park in that lot if you wish.

The general consensus of the very few who responded to my last message is that we should gather in July. See you then!!!

Hi one and all!

July has dawned summer hot. I wonder how long this will last. We have all moved from one exciting weather pattern to another this spring and early summer.
THIS Thursday (July 7) is the next Candor Jam! YEA!!!! It might even be warm enough to meet for part of the time in the parsonage back yard. No one is living there now so we have a bit of flexibility. I look forward to seeing many of you after a jamless June!
For many years we met at the sprawling home and business of Bob and Cheryl Berg. Cheryl's mom Helen loved to come and listen to the jam and often asked for a Phil-and-Carrie tune. She loved those CDs! She passed away 2 days ago. Come and sing a song or two in her memory!

Thursday July 7
7:30 at the Congregational Church in Candor

Another month has flown by and it is time to gather and sing.
But 2 of the more regular members of our little gathering have flown to Florida for the winter season.
That makes us just too small to justify the church heating up the space.
So we will take a Winter Recess until the snow has melted and green is spreading across our lawns.
That sounds like April to me!
May all your HOLIDAYS BE BRIGHT!

See you soon!
Carrie

Welcome Spring Jamming Party Apr 14th 5:00 pm

Hi Jammers One and All,

We took a winter break for trips south, curling up by the fire and saving fuel. We had no winter, but never mind! Now it is certainly time to open up the windows and air out the house and to gather together and SING! Please join us at Dry Brook Farm for a celebration of the new season. I expect we’ll be inside, but after the last 2 weeks who knows. Maybe we’ll be on the porch before the bugs even get a chance to hatch. Please come and bring your instruments including vocal chords, a song or 2 to share, and a dish to pass. Talk to your neighbors and bring them along, aim for a full car. Each driver of a full car will be entered in a raffle to win a GREAT spring prize. If you need a ride let me know and I’ll do my best to find you one. Remember, cars are for driving full!

Please let us know if you plan on coming so we can have enough chairs about and enough chili on the stove.

So let me clarify, this party is April 14 and you are welcome anytime after 5. I expect to eat at 6 but it is a pretty spot and you might want a walk or a Dick-shop tour.

We are happy to send directions to anyone who needs them.

Carrie and Dick

Dear Friends,
I’d like to invite you to join Tunes and Songs at Laura Taylor’s home in Ithaca May 17. She lives at 202 2nd St. It is the green house on the corner of 2nd and Monroe. Tunes and Songs used to meet in Candor NY, we called it the Candor Jam. I have renamed the group to reflect its evolved nature. It is not the same Candor Jam that Trish hosted. So a new name is in order! As has always been the case in our jamming circle, both instrumental tunes and songs with lyrics are welcomed. Therefore the name. I hope we can develop a core shared repertoire so we can have fun supporting each other’s music. Then it will be OUR music that we can move in and out of as we explore new things as well.
The list of recent attendees is so heavily biased towards Ithaca that we are actively searching for a Danby location. It would make it just as easy for the Northern Candor contingent and so very much easier for Ithacans to attend. Until such time as we find one, Laura Taylor has warmly welcomed us to use her house in the Fall Creek neighborhood of Ithaca NY. Who knows we might alternate sites. Carrie and DIck would be more than happy to carpool with others in the Northern Candor contingent. What do you think /Robert and Mike? Let’s plan on continuing to meet at 7:30 PM on Thursdays. It is good to keep some things the same.
Please give me some feedback regarding this plan. I’d really like to know your thoughts! I’d especially like to know if you think this new location will make it possible for you to come. The distance combined with the gas prices have become a barrier for some.
Keep on singing and playing!

Dear One and All,

Our next tuneful gathering will be once again at Laura Taylor’s lovely home at 202 Second St (green house on the Monroe St. corner) on JUNE 28. We are going to try a slightly different time in respect for everyone who has to get up in the morning and go to work. Music will begin at 7 and end at 10. If you can’t get there by 7 feel free to come as soon as you can, but we still will be breaking up at 10!

The last time we got together the variety of genres and instruments was marvelous. Mike even treated us to a harmonica number! He may prefer the accordion, but I love the variety. So bring along your favorite Bob Dylan, Beetles, old time fiddle tune,or great new find. We enjoy it all!

In July we will be enjoying a cooler spot outside of Danby! Doug Bayer has invited us to his home. I hear he has a lovely basement great room that will give us a bit more elbow room. We plan to escape the Downtown heat and put more space between our sweaty bodies......that is if it is hot! After 70 degrees plus in March we can’t count on anything! We’ll be in Danby regardless. Stay tuned for more details. August is likely another friendly Danby spot, Mike T. has invited us to his hilltop farm! Summer is a grand time to get out of town. Think of these as tiny festivals, a tiny drive for a few hours of music in a bucolic spot! I encourage folks to talk on June 28 and pair up for carpooling. Save a few bucks and pollute our world less!

Carrie Kerr

Hi Friends,
This month we are meeting in Danby at Doug Bayer’s home on July 26. He has invited any one to arrive around 6 if they want to cool off in his pond before making music. His cool country spot will be wonderful and it is close to “central Danby.” Directions follow. We will start music at 7 and our wind up time will be a bit flexible as Doug is taking Friday off and would happily play past 10. But that is up to YOU and folks who do not have the day off should feel free to leave when they think wise for them.
Doug lives at 105 /Durfee Hill Rd. in Ithaca. Google maps will get you VERY close. His phone number is 351-8755 in case you want to ask any questions. From Ithaca you head up Sough Aurora St which turns into 96B. In Danby, across from the fire station one turns left on Hornbrook Rd. The landmark is a big sign for AutoSalvage. you go 1.7 miles and turn right onto Durfee Hill Rd, bearing LEFT at the Y. .
From Slaterville one should get onto Coddington by the route that suits you best. Then go up and over Miller Rd. Taking Caroline Depot over from White Church leaves you with a L/R dogleg onto Miller. You go 1/9 miles on Miller and then turn left on Nelson, proceeding 0.4 miles to Hornbrook where Nelson becomes Durfee Hill. At the Y with Steamill, bear left with Durfee Hill. The house is .9 miles from the beginning of Durfee Hill Rd.
Despite coming from different places, both sets of directions have you approaching the house from the same direction. The black mailbox is on the left after the horse barn and paddock fence. The driveway is on the right. Pull around right and park on the outside. The Cathedral Cape Cod is beige with a red deck. The whole, short trip is 8.6 miles from the Commons, and 6.3 miles from the Rd 79/Lounsbery intersection. Both trips take about 15 minutes. I hope to see many of you there!!

Mike T called me with corrections to the directions to his home. He is excited to host the August Songs and Tunes. Please come join us enjoying the cool country air!

Mike Thurnheer’s place at 212 Hill Rd. That will be Thursday the 23 from 7-10. He lives on Hill Rd. south of the village on Danby. From Ithaca take 96B south and beyond Danby turn right on Curtis Rd. just after Steam Mill Rd..Turn LEFT on Hill Rd at the top of the hill and the place is on your RIGHT. From Spencer TAKE CRUMTOWN RD. WHICH TURNS INTO SOUTH DANBY RD., THEN TURN RIGHT ON HILL. The place will be on your LEFT. The previous directions sent you down a nearly impassible road. So skip that! From Candor area, take South Danby Rd. and turn right on Hill Rd. (if you are approaching from 96B), cross Curtis Rd. and find the place on your left. Mike has a GLORIOUS hill top farm with views to die for! Please join us and leave the alcohol at home. His wife plans to treat us to coffee and cookies. YUMM!!!!!
