St. Catherine's 2nd Annual International Peace Festival – Sept 15 and 16

Fun Times for All!

Ithaca, NY --- The 2nd Annual International Peace Festival will take place on Sept 15th and 16th - a two-day family friendly celebration for international peace, with live music and performances by a myriad of local and regional international acts.

MUSIC - The event features performances by the Sim Redmond Band (Roots-Rock, Afro-Caribbean and Reggae), Los Salseros del Monte (Latin Dance), Vitamin L (Inspirational), Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers (Gospel), Raizes de Brasil Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Arts and Dance), Celtimorphosis (Irish Folk), and Samite (African Soul). Other local performances include Nate the Great, Shimtah (Korean Drummer Group), Armstrong School of Dance and the Ithaca Children’s Garden. There will be arts and craft vendors, a silent auction, an assortment of international food, local craft beer as well as activities and entertainment for kids including passports, face painting, an outdoor evening movie and a bouncy castle.

The event will take place Saturday, Sept 15th from 3-11:00pm and Sunday, Sept 16th from 10-5:00pm on the grounds of St. Catherine’s Parish located off of Hanshaw Road in the Town of Ithaca. The goal of the event is to welcome people from throughout the community to a celebration of multicultural diversity and promotion of international peace, while helping to raise funds that support the organization’s peace and justice related activities

“The mission of St. Catherine of Siena parish is to inspire, engage, and nurture our community through worship and service,” said Father Joe Marcoux. "The festival helps us support our mission of working for peace and justice in our local community and our broader world community.” He adds that examples of programs supported by last year’s festival include St. Anthony’s in the Dominican Republic, Musicians for World Harmony (Music Heals), the Samaritan Center, the Rotary Foundation and Loaves and Fishes. As a fund raiser, raffle tickets are also available for $10 with the hope of winning prizes such as a cash prize of $1,000, an iPad 3 or a Kindle Fire.

Again this year, we are hosting a Silent Auction with over 40 items! Bids can be made on-line on our website as well as on-site at the festival. Artwork by Nancy Neaher Maas, Johanna Van Der Sterre and Mary Beth Ihnken, weekend get-a-ways, golf day passes, Yankees tickets and our favorite item: an Olympic Flag signed by five local Olympians:

Dustin Brown: Silver Medal USA Hockey, 2010 Vancouver Olympics and Stanley Cup Captain 2012 LA Kings
Andrew Brynes: Gold Medal men's 8 rowing 2008 Beijing, Silver Medal London 2012
Caren Davies: Gold Medal women's 8 rowing London 2011 & Beijing 2008, Silver Medal Greece 2004
Jake Corneilius: Member of 2012 USA men’s 8 rowing Olympic team, 4th place in London 2012
Alex Meyer: Member of the Team USA Olympic swim team in London 2012, racing 10,000 meter open water

Do you like to experiment with international flavors, spices and selections? Throughout the festival, there will be many different options of international food and beverages; German Brauts, Korean Noodle and Vegetable Bowls, African Fried Dough and Ginger Drink, St Catherine Bakers Café, Hispanic Dishes and Specialties and local favorite Shaved Ice (berry and plum). New this year will be celebrity food demonstrations with professional chefs from Wegmans, the Heights and Cornell. Come check them out on Sunday at 12:00, 2:00 and 3:00pm.

The following craft vendors will be present: Ann Marie Eckert (pottery), 10,000 Villages (international crafts and ethnic gifts), All Saints (fair trade goods), Tom Roach (pottery), Louise Felker (original jewelry designs, Saturday only), Hoopla, Inc. (make your own buttons!) and Onyx Claw Studios (paintings, pendants, crafts).

The two-day festival is open to the public and the purchase of a festival button for $5 is encouraged as admission. You can learn more about the festival and purchase admission buttons on our website; www.internationalpeacefest.org or “Like us” on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/IthacaInternationalPeaceFest for ongoing updates.
