BLUEGRASS MASTER LOUIE SETZER & THE APPALACHIAN MTN. BOYS SAT., MARCH 24th AT THE TOWN HALL OPRY IN BAINBRIDGE, NY
Louie Setzer & the Appalachian Mountain Boys (www.louiesetzer.com) will blow in from Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, the heart of slate mining country, to perform at the renowned Town Hall Opry, Town Hall Theatre, 15 North Main Street, Bainbridge, NY. The Jericho Arts Council is the event'ris sponsor (www.jerichoarts.com).
SETZER, aka "The Duke of Bluegrass" with his "titanium tonsils," was RIPSAW's first recording artist (Ripsaw 209; 1976), and has been performing Traditional Bluegrass Music for over 30 years in the Hard-Driving Honky-Tonk style. SETZER's affiliation with RIPSAW led to his winning the New York City Bluegrass Club's Band of the Year Contest, knocking off the YANKEE REBELS, who had won the previous five years in a row, and leading to a string of sold-out gigs at the legendary BELLS OF HELL in Greenwich Village. His RIPSAW releases may be found on the "BEST OF RIPSAW" CD series available at www.ripsawreords.com. His latest CD release "WISH I WERE THERE" and others are also available there and through www.louiesetzer.com.
SETZER was musically inactive much of the 1990's and early 2000's, but returned to his great love - singing - better than ever in mid-2004. Since then, he has played clubs, radio shows, festivals, and shindigs across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and New York. This will be a return engagement at the TOWN HALL OPRY.
"Louie Setzer has a very intense voice that rings with true notes …" "[The Appalachian Mountain Boys have proven to be a hard act to follow. … [They are] a true bluegrass band." Del McCoury
