THE SMITH CLUB SERIES TO DEBUT AT CLUB 86 with Eilen Jewell on Friday March 9
GENEVA NY – The Smith Opera House will kick off its new concert program, The Smith Club Series, with a performance by Eilen Jewell, Friday March 9 at Club 86, 86 Avenue E, Geneva, beginning at 8 pm. Concert tickets are $15.
The series aims to bring live music at an affordable ticket price to multiple venues in Geneva. Shows will feature national touring performers that typically appear in clubs, or smaller houses than the 1400-seat Smith Opera House. The Club Series will bring these acts to concert spaces in Geneva with a capacity of 100-300 seats.
Series opener Eilen Jewell is well known to the Finger Lakes area, having drawn crowds in Rochester and Ithaca, and most recently a summer concert at Sheldrake Point Winery. Currently touring on her recent CD Queen of the Minor Key, the Boston-based singer-songwriter has shared venues with Loretta Lynn, The Holmes Brothers, Dave Alvin, Lucinda Williams and Mavis Staples. Since her official debut release, Boundary County, Jewell has surveyed a wide range of traditional music styles, from the folk and jug band leanings of her early recordings through an album length tribute to Loretta Lynn and country gospel of her work with The Sacred Shakers. Her Sea of Tears 2009 release adds some Chicago blues and rock to the mix.
Jewell and her band have appeared at prestigious festivals around the country, including the Rochester Jazz Festival, South by Southwest, the Philadelphia Folk Festival and the Oakland Music Festival. They have been featured on NPR's World Cafe, Mountain Stage, XM Radio, and Woodsong's Old-Time Radio Hour, and tour extensively in the US, Canada, Europe, UK, and Australia.
As part of the Smith Club Series evening, Club 86 will be serving dinners from 6-7:30 pm off a special bistro menu. Although dinner reservations are not required to attend the show, those with reservations will be assured the best seating for the evening.
Tickets and dinner reservations are available at Club 86 (315.789.4955) or the Smith Opera House Box Office (82 Seneca Street, or by calling 315 781 5483). Concert tickets without dinner reservations can also be obtained through the Smith’s website, www.thesmith.org.
