The Wednesday JAM still happens pretty much EVERY week.

The focus is traditional fiddle dance tunes suitable for contra or square dancing with occasional waltzes and hambos. We work mostly from the Ithaca YFN tune set (ask for more info!) ...
If you enjoy the Monday nights on the Commons, you are greatly encouraged to come to this jam and hone your skills in more of a learning type setting ....
Every Wednesday 7-9:30 pm. Email mike for more info, directions etc ...

Lisa said she would like to carpool. Her email is thewriterwrites@yahoo.com - She lives in the NE neighborhood but can swing onto campus or downtown if needed. She has a 4-WD that fits three passengers.

Not a slow jam these days, but still welcoming to beginners!
JAM -- Open Jam at Mike's workshop on Canaan Rd every Wednesday - Traditional Celtic, American and world fiddle dance tunes: Reels, Jigs, Hornpipes, Hambos and Waltzes in a friendly speed controlled atmosphere. Newcomers welcome. All instruments welcome: Fiddles, Guitars, Mandolins, Banjos etc ... welcome! Sheet music and MP3's available. EVERY Wednesday 7:00 - 9:30 pm interrupted by occasional special events -- More INFO: email Mike!

Hey Michael-
Susan M the pennywhistle player here. I want to bounce something off of you. As you know, I have a visual disability (vestibular dysfunction)....dizzy 24/7 which has left me unable to read beyond a paragraph or drive etc....
I've been coming to the jams with Kaaren but she seems to have a prior commitment now on Wednesdays.
I am wondering if there is anyone from the Ithaca area that does go out to your jams on a regular that I might carpool with (am certainly willing to pitch in for ghe gas money).
Do let me know.....I do not do Facebook (can not deal with the visual aspects)....but if there's someone you can think of I should contact (via phone or email) do let me know. I live in the Fall Creek area...

Next Wednesday Dec 12, we are moving the regular Wed Canaan Jam to Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) 330 E State Street Ithaca NY., 3rd floor ballroom for the event listed below. It is a party organized by a home schooler mom (Kelly, she is a contra dancer too!) with a Hobbit theme. Pot luck at 6 pm, contra music at 7 pm. We will do some simple family dances and play tunes we all know from the Wed night session. Bring a music stand if you need it ...
Also New Year's Eve party at Bethel Grove Monday Dec 31 with an open band led by Kathy Selby and myself. Kathy will have a set-list for that and I'll send it out soon and more info etc ... also a family friendly event.
Here is the info for next Wed. Musicians are not expected to pay a donation to get in, but donations are certainly welcome and needed
Celebrating The Hobbit: An Unexpected Pre-Movie Release Party Wed Dec 12th! - Join us for a family-friendly celebration of the beloved Tolkien work, The Hobbit, just before the exciting new film is released. You'll find Middle Earth in the 3rd floor ballroom of CSMA, on Wed Dec. 12th! 330 E State Street Ithaca NY 14850 6-9pm. COSTUMES - Dress as your favorite character or Middle Earth POTLUCK - Bring you favorite Hobbit-like dish to pass! We'll be posting links below for ideas, but the books are full of info on food eaten in Middle Earth. Hobbits love to eat! GAMES - Riddles, trivia, sack races, and more! Be the first to find the One Ring...MUSIC & DANCE - We'll have live Irish-style music and Contra dancing, as Hobbits love to celebrate and dance! The (rough) musical plan is Sundown Sally at dinner hour(6-7?) followed by a contra dance (music by Mike Ludgate and friends) immediately after that for an hour or so (7:15-??) followed by a fiddle tune jam session. All while the folks and children of Middle Earth are frolicking and playing games. Donation of $5-$10 per family is requested to help cover the costs of the event. All proceeds above and beyond will be donated to Northern Light Learning Center.
