Art classes at The Country Store, taught by Christi Sobel. Please email me at info@christisobel.com for more information or to register.
Keeping a Sketchbook
Mondays, 7-9 PM
January 15, 22, 29, February 5
Cost: $80
Limit 12 students, ages 12 and up, no art experience necessary
This class will be an introduction to basic sketching and keeping a sketchbook. We will use easy, portable, dry media (pencils, pens, colored pencils) and play with the basics of observing and recording what you see. This should be a fun introductory class and useful for people who want to keep a travel journal or field notes, as well as good discipline for the more established artist. There will definitely be homework!
Materials: sketchbook, at least 8 x 10, technical pencil (0.7mm is my favorite) with B and H leads, (optional: a few drawing pencils (4B, 2B, HB, 2H) plus sharpener), Sharpie ultra-fine tip marker, Micron pens, eraser, small ruler, colored pencils
Colored Pencil Techniques
Mondays, 7-9 PM
February 12, 19, 26, March 5
Cost: $90, includes some materials
Limit 12 students, ages 12 and up, some art experience helpful
Colored pencils are one of my favorite media! They are very accessible, and can be used on a variety of surfaces to great effect. This class will concentrate on the process of making finished drawings, based on natural objects. We will explore different surfaces for colored pencils, such as toned Canson paper and drafting film, and combining colored pencils with other media.
Materials: a set of Prismacolor pencils (these really are the best), pencil sharpener, sketchbook, tracing paper, technical pencil, kneaded eraser. Optional: small brush and acrylic paints, Bristol board, watercolors and hot press watercolor paper…we can discuss these as the class progresses. I will provide Canson paper and drafting film and a few other obscure supplies.
More Information:
All classes will be held at The Country Store, corner of Rt. 79 (Slaterville Rd.) and Landon Road. Payment for each entire class is due at the start of the first class meeting. If the student asks to withdraw after the first class, I will refund $60, after that the fee is non-refundable except in genuine emergencies.

Dear all,
As some of you know, I am going to teach some art classes this winter! I'm sending another announcement about this because I have changed the dates for the sketchbook class. Each class is 4 weeks long, and is open to all levels of experience... the sketchbook class is especially good for beginners.
If you sign up with a friend, you can each take $5 off the class fee. Registration closes on February 10th.
thank you!
