Playing harmony-infused funky Americana rock, acoustic pop, alt-country and the occasional stray old-time tune, the most common adjective used to describe The Small Kings music is 'fun'. Jeff McCaffrey (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Mike Levy (bass, ukele, vocals), Frank Raponi (guitar, harmonica, banjo, vocals) and Joel Blizzard (drums) play together seamlessly, like an experienced basketball team: they can pass and catch the ball without eye contact and they have each others backs. The positive friction between the four band members adds a playful spark to their music. Simultaneously melodic, upbeat and groovy, most of their songs are originals, with their sound being compared to the likes of Rufus Wainright, Crosby and Stills (no Nash), Neal Diamond and Ben Folds, with Bootsie Collins and Grateful Dead influences peeking through as well. Their first full-length cd, Eating Oranges After Dark, was released in November 2008.

|
|
Hello Friends of Felicia,
Because Felicia is wise, or perhaps because she is a slightly drunk, overly verbose know-it-all, many of you have asked her how one can prevent contracting and/or spreading the swine flu. In the spirit of generously sharing her imagined wisdom, here are some of Felicia’s suggestions:
1. Don't touch your face! Don't rub your eyes, stick a finger in your nose, pick your teeth (or touch other unmentionable mucous membranes) UNLESS you have just washed your hands.
2. Wash your hands. A lot. You use the lavatory, wash your hands, you exit bathroom, you rub your eye, you're contaminated! How? Some snotty-handed slob touched the doorknob before you. Bastard.
3. Stay home if you have a fever or if you think you are going to cough a lung out into your friend’s cocktail. Lungs do not make attractive garnishes.
4. Get a flu shot. Get two.
5. Choose soap. Hand sanitizer is best saved for when you don’t have access to soap and water, say for example when you are somewhere with very scary bathrooms, such as any bar other than Felicia’s. Note: Putting hand sanitizer on your eyebrows will NOT effectively prevent illness. We saw a waiter at Dinosaur BBQ do that last year; I’m not making this up.
6. Drink nutrient-rich drinks like the Pomegranate Cosmopolitan, Lychee Martini, Bloody Mary and PBR.
Heed Felicia’s advice to avoid the flu! We're the ones who make a brighter place so let's start giving. There's a choice we're making: we're saving our own lives. It's true we'll make a better day, just you and me.
