====================
Missed 1st class because of weather last Tues? [/b]well, there is still time to jump in. We will review!
And deduct $12 per couple/ $6 per single for coming in at week 2.
BALLROOM BASICS - Slow Fox Trot & Hustle - TUES 8:10-9:20pm - START Feb. 26, 2008, \ 6 weeks. (mid-session break: no class Mar 18th)
[/size]Classes meet in the beautiful Island Health & Fitness building - great floor, great sound system. Only $65 per person, discounts for couples, club members, & previous students. Info, music lists, fees: www.ithacadance.com - register now to reserve a space. Gift certificates available.
For raw beginners, as well as those with some dance experience. Improve your leading, following, listening to the music, posture, balance, movement and enjoyment! Singles as well as couples are welcome: we pair up and rotate the singles frequently throughout the class.
Castle Foxtrot, one of the earliest American ballroom dances, is our favorite beginner ballroom strategy. This slow foxtrot is perfect for dancing at weddings. It is danced to slow music, and there is a lot of great slow popular music from all time periods up to the present day. Learning STYLE is as important as learning steps, moves, and lead/follow technique. The Castle Foxtrot is enjoyable, definitely the easiest to learn, very practical and adaptable. You will hear plenty of great music in our classes.
Hustle is so much fun for all those great dance tunes of the 70s, 80s, right up to 2008: Bees Gees, ABBA, Madonna, Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, KC & The Sunshine Band, Whitney Houston, C&C Music Factory, Scissors Sisters, and on and on! Hustle is a mix of swing and latin stylings. It really moves around the floor, with lots of turns. We love the music of hustle and the dance that goes great with it. Hustle and Castle Foxtrot give you everything you need for the majority of tunes played at weddings.
Free CD with practice tunes! We give plenty of individual attention. Instructors: Kurt Lichtmann (Cornell Dance Instructor, M.M. Ithaca College) and Maria Bodiu.

Ballroom Classes at CSMA with Iska and James
See www.csma-ithaca.org to register; Questions? mailto: iziver@verizon.net
Beginning Wednesday, April 23 for five weeks
6:00 – 7:00 pm - Beginning Waltz
This is an introductory course for those who want to learn waltz in a fun, upbeat and supportive environment. We’ll cover basic steps, movement and posture of this romantic and elegant dance. Learn the aspects of partner dancing that easily transfer to any dance. We’ll spend time on connecting with your partner, the basic elements of lead and follow, and good foundational technique. No partner necessary!
7:00 – 7:30 pm - Open Practice
Free and open to any CSMA social dance student, past or present – we’ll play a variety of music for practicing what you’ve learned.
7:30 – 8:30 pm – Night Club Two Step
Night Club Two Step is a wonderful slow dance that lilts and flows, and can be danced to a variety of music styles. As a nice complement to your faster dance repertoire, NC2S is a great dance to bring to clubs, ballrooms, and weddings. Some dance experience is recommended.
No partner necessary – we’ll rotate in class. We recommend wearing smooth-bottomed shoes. Come prepared to learn and have fun doing it!
Here’s what students from previous sessions had to say: “James and Iska made it fun, it was great!”; “Perfect introduction to ballroom. We had lots of fun and felt ourselves improving!”; “The class was excellently paced, allowing everyone to understand the steps. I highly recommend James’ and Iska’s classes to all dance lovers, no matter what your skill level is.”
A little about us…….
By day Iska is a practicing attorney in Ithaca in the areas of family law, mediation and collaborative law. Her other passion is dance. She has trained in various partner dances since 1999, and also studied ballet, jazz, belly dance, modern dance and theatre arts. In addition to CSMA, she has taught swing, Latin and ballroom dance at Cornell and also offers private lessons.
James has been dancing for more than 20 years. He has taught a variety of partner dances - including ballroom, swing and Latin - in California, New York and Sydney, Australia. He has competed professionally as well as given private instruction and coaching to many other competitive dancers.

CHACHA - THURS 7:20-8:20pm - START Dec.2, 2008, short 3-week pre-holiday class series. Classes meet in the beautiful, spacious Island Health & Fitness building on the inlet - great floor, great sound system. Only $35 per person, discounts for couples, club members, & previous students. Chacha is Cuban in origin. During the 1950s, the Cha Cha became a craze due to popularization by Arthur Murray, who spent considerable time in Cuba. He also changed the name from CHA-CHA-CHA to Chacha! Chacha is always played in the mix on club latin nights. It has become a ballroom staple as well, with a decidedly different look and feel than club or street style. As with all dances, Cha cha can be danced vigorously, or in a very mellow style. Check out Angel & Reyna dancing street style Chacha in Cuba: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKAxDwrYVS4 video
For raw beginners, as well as those with some dance experience. NO PARTNER NEEDED: Singles as well as couples are welcome: we pair up and rotate the singles frequently throughout the class.
Free CD with practice tunes! We give plenty of individual attention. Instructors: Kurt Lichtmann (Cornell Dance Instructor, M.M. Ithaca College) and Heather Carlsen, currently Ithaca's #1 couples dance teaching team. Info, music lists, fees: www.ithacadance.com - register now to reserve a space. _________________ Michael Ludgate - forum administrator
