ITHACA NY — On Friday August 28th New Roots Charter School will host its first “Jazz on the Porch” event from 5:30 to 7:30pm, welcoming the community to celebrate the imminent opening of the school along with faculty, staff, students, and their caregivers. Jazz on the Porch will be an open Jam that welcomes players and listeners alike. The Jam will be on the front porch of The Clinton House on the Corner of Seneca and Cayuga Street.
The house band will consist of New Roots students and local musicians Tom Bronzetti, Walter Stinson, Greg Evans, and Alejandro Bernard-Papachryssanthou, New Roots Music Director. The Jam will start with the house band, followed by an open invitation to anyone who wishes to participate.
The music program will consist of well known jazz standards and arrangements in a variety of styles ranging from up-tempo Latin jazz to slow, swing ballads. A goal of the New Roots Music Department is to keep jazz alive and thriving in Ithaca, and to share the gift of music with the downtown community.
