Porchfest 3 - Local Musicians Displaying Their Talents on the Porches of Fall Creek & Northside Sunday, Sept 13, 2009 from 1:00-5:30 pm
ITHACA NY — On Sunday, September 13 from 1:00-5:30pm, the streets of the Fall Creek & Northside neighborhoods will be filled with acoustic music, as many of Ithaca’s finest musicians sing and play on their porches and front stoops. To hear them, grab a map at one of three pickup locations (Greenstar, Guitar Works, and Gimme Coffee on Cayuga Street) or online at www.porchfest.org, and then walk or bike around the neighborhood to take in the sounds of this free event.
Porchfest 3 will feature over 50 musical acts. Performers include bands El Rumbon, The Black Walnut Band, Not From Wisconsin, JazzHappensBand, Kí-Tún, and Rocko Dorsey, and musicians Uniit Carruyo, Emily Arin, Nate Richardson, Sim Redmond, Terry Burns and Ron Kristy. The festival offers musical styles ranging from roots rock to Dixieland jazz, and from pop to opera, and international flavors from Afro-Brazilian to Swedish to Indian. There will also be a chance to join in: Emoretta Yang is professor for the required course “Ukulelese as a Second Language,” your chance to learn to play the uke, and a number of musicians are hosting open jams on their porches. Still another highlight is storyteller Lee-Ellen Marvin with tales for children and adults.
When the music is done at 5:30pm, grab a picnic dinner and your instruments and head to the Auburn Street “triangle” park for more fun and music. For more information, go to http://www.porchfest.org
