ITHACA NY - VIDEO UPDATE (Thurs am): The LACS teacher who has been spearheading New York Youth Against Fracking, Mariah Prentiss, got a call from Yoko Ono last night: Their music video, “You’ve Been Fracked,” has WON the Artists Against Fracking video contest! The official announcement will be TODAY. All of the people who were involved in making the video are really excited and proud! The prize is having lunch in NYC with Yoko and her son, Sean Lennon! ITHACA NY - I am sure many folks know Edith McCrea. She is a local old time banjo player and is a regular at some of the area jam sessions. Edith wrote a song 2 weeks ago about fracking called “You’ve Been Fracked”, and a few days later, she taught it to the kids in “New York Youth Against Fracking”, an LACS-based activist group of middle-schoolers and high-schoolers that her daughter has been participating in. The youth group has been on the radio, rallied in Albany and will be appearing on Nickelodeon’s NickNews.

The kids decided to enter the song in a 3-minute-video contest sponsored by Artists Against Fracking, and within 4 days, the community had pulled together to make a music video at REP Studios in Ithaca, with a professionally-produced video made by Moving Box Productions.  Kids, parents, teachers, students from NewRoots and Northern Lights Learning Center, and local musicians got involved in the project.  They JUST barely made the 1/30 deadline for the contest!  The video can now be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCO_WIcWy-Y Or you can google “You’ve Been Fracked - YouTube” .
